The Overview-Effect: from Fighter Jet Pilots to Astronauts
The best trained pilots are fighter jet pilots. They have to kill specifically, quickly and with high precision. The highest professional demands are made on astronauts. They are always recruited among fighter jet pilots because they are the best trained pilots. When astronauts see earth from space for the first time, they all report the same thing. Overwhelmed by emotion, they cry. The phenomenon even has a name: the "Overview Effect".
