GIVE ME YOUR HUNGER -
HEALINGGROUP FOR WOMEN WITH FOOD ISSUES
WHEN OUR RELATIONSHIP TO FOOD HURTS
"I could say that I ate up a house - I spent that much money on food between ages 13 to 20."
"Eat until iI almost burst, vomit until my bile comes out, take a brief break, go mad with anxiety again and off I go again - sometimes 6 to 10 times a day."
"It starts innocently with"healthy foods". And suddenly, maybe because I ate a bite "too much", a switch is flipped and there is no stopping - I eat my way through bread, butter, cake, cheese, sugar until I can no longer walk, until I can no longer walk and find myself crawling on the floor. "
"I refused to lick off a stamp because I couldn't be sure wether there might be calories on it."
"I eat and eat and eat - and the next day I have to swim, or jog, or go to the gym: one, two, three hours, with compulsive determination, in the hope of burning the calories I gorged the day before."
What is food addiction?
Eating disorders can take different forms: anorexia (also called anorexia), bulimia (food addiction usually followed by self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or compulsive exercise), eating bouts more or less controlled by diets and fasting, and obesity.
They all have one thing in common: the relationship with food is complicated, painful and omnipresent, and categorically prevents those affected from getting into their strength. For people with eating disorders there is no "innocent food", no enjoyable food, no social food. The relationship with food is always existential, desperate, cruel - and annilihates all other needs from the lives of those affected. Like all addicts, victims pay the highest price without resistance to serve their supposed master, their own destruction, on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.
Can food addiction be cured?
In the final analysis, the supposedly insatiable hunger that drives the food addict is a healthy hunger, a good hunger, an enormous hunger for life and vitality, which our family, society and/ or our environment and ultimately we have denied ourselves. It is up to us to earn and claim this power and to wan to stand and be visible with it.
Food addiction is a very physical phenomenon. It pulls the body of those affected into unimaginable and sometimes fatal suffering. That is why the focus of my work in the healing group is on physical expression. I use elements of dance, theater and music, in short physical expression, to connect with the life instinct of those afflicted, and I use the distressed body as a source of hope and strength. Even in the darkest of times, it remains attached to spirituality and to “the big picture”, as a temple of our mind and soul. With him we face our dreams and visions.
